CWA/ AT&T Bargaining Bulletin # 65
December 14, 2016
Cebrian Yard, Local 9421 West Sacramento ~ Ready to work
AT&T has continued to stall bargaining for the last three weeks.
In February, the Union submitted a proposal on AT&T’s Branded Apparel Program. The proposal asks for Union/American made apparel made of 100% Natural Fiber. The Company has continually rejected our proposal indicating the matter is with Cal OSHA for a decision.
Cal OSHA has issued a citation against AT&T’s Branded Apparel Program. Citations were issued in Local 9416 in Bakersfield and Local 9431 in Auburn. The citation states that the Company did not prohibit Technicians performing work on exposed energized parts of equipment or systems, from wearing polyester fabric work clothing when exposed to the hazards of flames or electric arcs. Technicians who are exposed to these hazards who are required to wear Company provided apparel, are currently wearing non-compliant fabric. The citation prohibits wearing clothing made from acetate, nylon, polyester, and rayon either alone or in blends unless the fabric has been treated with flame retardant materials.
The decision is a Victory for the safety of our Union Brothers and Sisters!
