Cricket Employees in Nevada and California Joining CWA
After AT&T bought Cricket, employees got a great opportunity to join CWA under an organizing agreement that CWA has with AT&T. Employees just have to sign an authorization card, and if a majority of the employees in the state sign up, AT&T will recognize them as part of CWA and they get covered by the orange Mobility contract. And being part of a union means and having a contract means BIG improvements for Cricket employees, with rights like a voice on the job, regular raises, better benefits, and the right to have someone with them in meetings with their supervisors.
During the week of April 13, over 75% of the Cricket wireless employees in Nevada signed authorization cards, and once AT&T is notified by the American Arbitration Association that a majority of employees have signed cards, they will be covered by the contract AND be members of the union, which is critical in a right to work (shirk) state like Nevada.
On April 27th, the California locals, 9333, 9408, 9509 and 9511, will hit the Corporate Cricket stores and will start the card signing process here, and we expect we will have similar success. Cricket employees across the country are very excited and happy to become union employees. Workers in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and New York have already joined the CWA family.
