AFA Bridging the GAP Day of Action
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
We just want to thank everyone for coming out in support today. You guys are so awesome! Also, sorry for the last minute change in location. The airport didn’t notify us that they have begun construction at terminal 1. Nevertheless, we made it work anyway! Most importantly, we got the message out that we won’t stand by and watch our Sisters and Brothers at regional airlines be mistreated and be paid half for the same work. SAME WORK, SAME PAY! We also know that many of you in the district are faced with very similar issues and we are here to support you in those battles.
Sadly, the fight isn’t over….The days of action are just beginning. Many of you know that July 23, 2015 is the self-imposed deadline for our contract at United Airlines to be completed. This date was agreed upon by the National Mediation Board (NMB), United Airlines management, and AFA-CWA. This contract is of the utmost importance as it will cover more than 23,000 Flight Attendants in one stroke of a pen. It has been 5 years since the merger with United, Continental Micronesia, and Continental Airlines and STILL NO CONTRACT! If there is no tentative agreement by July 23, 2015, all hell is going to break loose! Our members are fed up and it is time to Stand Up and Fight Back!
It was so encouraging to see all of our Sisters and Brothers on the picket line today! Solidarity Forever! I look forward to standing with all of you again soon! Where There Is Unity, We Will Find Strength!
Ever so Grateful and In Solidarity,
Dante Harris
