As you know, the gender wage gap means that women get paid less than white men. The gap is even wider for women of color, especially Latinas. For every dollar that a white non-Hispanic male makes, Latinas only make 55 cents. That means that Latinas would have to work 22 months – until October 30th of this year – to equal what their white non-Hispanic male counterparts took home last year alone.

Please join CLUW today, October 15th, the last day of Hispanic Heritage Month, byparticipating in a Twitter storm for #LatinaEqualPay.

Thursday, October 15th, 3:30 to 4:30 PM ET
Participating hashtags: #LatinaEqualPay #IgualdadSalarial #BrechaSalarial

Here are a few sample tweets. (The Spanish-translated versions are listed beneath the English ones):

  • The wage gap is greatest for #Latinas, earning just 55 cents for every dollar paid to white men. #LatinaEqualPay
  • Hispanic Heritage Month ends today—& there are still 2 weeks until Latinas' earnings catch up to white men’s from last year. #LatinaEqualPay
  • Todavía quedan 2 semanas hasta que los ingresos Latinas’ se pongan al día para hombres blancos desde 2014. #IgualdadSalarial #LatinaEqualPay
  • At this rate, the wage gap will not close for 4 decades. Can you wait that long for a fair wage? We sure can't! #LatinaEqualPay
  • Supporting your family shouldn’t contribute to the gender #WageGap. Stand up for #EqualPay! #LatinaEqualPay

We look forward to your participation in this tweet storm. More resources are available at this link:https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1_fC8cWGKbnJVp96Ngsfah9fDj55zBWC8G_yNEr89J34/edit?pli=1#slide=id.gcaeca40b7_1_2
