Coalition Priority bill AB 908 (Gomez) passed out of Assembly Insurance Committee today!
California Work & Family Coalition Members and Friends,
Great news:
Coalition Priority bill AB 908 (Gomez) passed out of Assembly Insurance Committee today! The bill will now go on to Assembly Appropriations.
At today’s hearing, we heard some on point testimony from Coalition members including David Chase from the Small Business Majority, Kim Turner, Legal Aid Society-Employment Law Center, Sandra Poole, California Black Health Network, Jessica Bartholow, Western Center on Law And Poverty and Mariko Yoshihara, CELA. I spoke briefly representing the statewide Coalition and Assemblymember Autumn Burke (co-author) joined Assemblymember Gomez in presenting on the details of the bill.
AB 908 would increase the PFL wage replacement rate by 15% to 25% (depending on income) and would extend the possible leave time to 10 weeks. This will make a huge difference to the children and families of parents and caregivers – time for bonding and caregiving greatly improve early child development and family health outcomes.
Here is a tweet from Assemblymember Gomez: https://twitter.com/JimmyGomezCA/status/585889589073612801 Please retweet and/or tweet your support for the bill using #ab908 and #paidleave
Also, if you haven’t sent in letters of support, please send them directly to Assemblymember Gomez’s office via e-mail to Annabel.Snider@asm.ca.gov and Lisa.Murawski@asm.ca.gov. Let me know if you need me to resend the sample letter. It will be helpful to have a good support list by the time the bill reaches the Assembly floor.
Thanks everyone – this is a great year for Paid Family Leave!
