L.A. Labor on the Move

Poverty Does Not Stop at the City Limits

Poverty doesn’t stop at the city limits. Neither will our campaign to raise the wage.

It shouldn’t matter if someone lives in Marina del Rey or East LA -- hard work deserves fair pay. That’s why when we won a $15.25 minimum wage for residents of LA City, we promised that we'd work to extend it to the county too.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors is meeting to vote on raising the wage for Los Angeles County.Join us as we stand for fair pay for all!

ALEC’s Annual Convention kicks off on July 22 in San Diego and right-wing presidential hopefuls such as Wisconsin’s Scott Walker, former Gov. Mike Huckabee and Sen.Ted Cruz will be in attendance.

Which Way Forward?

With immigration reform stalled in Congress and DAPA and the expansion of DACA temporarily blocked by the courts, there is growing community anxiety as ICE is preparing to implement its newest deportation program.

Instead of the LA Sheriff’s Department protecting all of its residents, they are formulating a policy of continued entanglement with ICE, which will include implementation of the new Priority Enforcement Program (PEP or PEP-Comm) in Los Angeles County.

RSVP here to discuss a policy that has the potential of harming thousands of Angelenos!

As a labor family, we will not stand for this! It is our duty to stand with the Riveras during this difficult time. On July 22, join AFGE: The Union for Government Employees, the Rivera family, and community members as we show our support for our fallen brother and stand for the safety of all correctional workers during an informational picket that day.

Walmart Workers Will Not Stand for This!

Two weeks ago, Pico Rivera workers who used to have a job at that Walmart store visited the store’s Market Manager Laura Kish to present her with a letter requesting a meeting to discuss solutions to being transferred and be reinstated once the store re-opens.

What was her response?

“They are not even worth it. They are all worthless.”

Together with OUR Walmart, please call 1-800-WALMART and tell them Pico workers are NOT worthless and deserve to be treated with respect. They deserve to be transferred and reinstated!
