L.A. Labor on the Move
One Signature Away!
Last week the City Council voted to raise the minimum wage and lift more than 700,000 Angelenos out of poverty. Their actions have inspired the nation and yesterday the City Council sent the minimum wage ordinance to the mayor for his signature and swift passage.
The mayor has been a leader on this issue and now is the time for him to sign this legislation into law. Make sure he knows you support him and ask that he move quickly. Workers in LA can’t wait.
Please join us this Saturday, June 13th, as Mayor Garcetti signs the landmark minimum wage & wage theft bill.
Event Start Time: 1:30 pm - there will be food and music
Where: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park 3916 Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90062
Thank you again for making history and fighting to make LA the biggest city in the country to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour!
Air Catering Workers Win the DayKudos to the employees of the airline catering company Flying Food Group for fighting wage theft on the job! The 271 employees at the company’s Imperial Highway kitchen will finally begin to receive a living wage, in addition to the back pay after years of underpayment.
The order came from the Office of Contract Compliance and will include as much as $8 million for five years of back pay. Hats off to UNITE HERE for supporting these workers in their struggles.
“The workers have been saying for a long time that they deserve a living wage,” Meghan Cohorst of UNITE HERE told the LA Times. “We're happy with the finding and we hope that it is seen through to the end.”
Bridge the Gap at LAX
On June 16th, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA will host a Day of Action to end discriminatory wage policies in aviation. Currently, regional airline Flight Attendants earn 40% less than counterparts at mainline airlines for performing the same work and connecting the same passengers.
Flight Attendants are charged with ensuring passengers' health, safety, and security. They deserve to be treated and paid equally.
It is time we bridge the gap to ensure equal pay for equal work for all Flight Attendants!
