SB 1161 Deregulation Template Letters
This bill was moved out of the Energy, Utilities and Communications Committee on April 17, 2012 by a vote of 12-0 in favor of passage of the bill. This bill would deregulate the telephone system as we know it. Of course this is backed by telecommunications companies such as Verizon, Comcast and yes you guessed it AT&T. Deregulation will result in less protections for consumers, provided less job security for our members who work for these companies and provide no avenue for consumers to have the CPUC address problems with corporations.
The California Public Utility Commissioners will be meeting on May 10, 2012 in Fresno to vote on this bill. It is imperative that we send a clear and loud message to them that this is harmful on all fronts. Please see the attached template letters for Organizations and for Union members who work in telecommunications. These letters can be adapted to fit any circumstance. Feel free to circulate through you Local LPATers and local mobilizations or tailgates. Please send the letter to Alex Padilla, email or fax a copy to each of the Commissioners and Ameenah McAuley at amcauley@cwa-union.org.
Again we need these in on or before May 9, 2012 to let the Commissioner know before their vote.
