CWA 9509 Members stage Informational Picketing Mobilization

Since bargaining began in January 2016, SEIU #221 management has not been meeting in good faith. They have rejected almost all of CWA's proposals, even the non-economic ones. After Justice Scalia passed away and the threat of an unfavorable ruling in the Friedrich's case was not looming in the foreseeable future, management said they had a revised package for us. However, their revised proposals showed very little movement on the wages and none on our non-economic proposals.

Today's informational picket line was set up to coincide with a LERA (Labor and Employment Relations Association) meeting being hosted by SEIU #221. Attending this meeting were representatives from several other Unions, the FMCS, and San Diego County management personnel. SEIU #221 is set to face off against San Diego County this summer in bargaining. SEIU #221 management had a lot of explaining to do as to why there was a picket line outside of their union office and the LERA meeting was cut short by 1.5 hours because of the disruption we were causing outside.
We are hopeful to see some movement at our next scheduled bargaining session on March 24th. ~Submitted by Staff Rep. Janine Munson
